My Why - Writing Healing and Hopeful

Writing my book Healing and Hopeful was both an offering and, an act of survival. It was cathartic, confronting, and unexpectedly healing. I speak briefly about that journey in a recent podcast conversation, but the deeper truth is the book came from a season I never would have chosen, yet one that shaped me in ways I could never have imagined. And, I hope it reaches someone who is in a place where hope is just what they need.

Back in 2020, the world slowed down. The global pandemic forced many of us to stop and reassess how we were living and working. It certainly did in my home. We were reflecting, recalibrating, and trying like everyone else to make sense of uncertainty. What we didn’t know then was that our lives were about to implode in the most devastating way. The events that followed became the catalyst for this book. Out of disruption came reflection. Out of reflection came words. And out of those words came meaning. The writing was not neat or linear, some days it felt like excavation, digging through grief, fear, anger, and hope. And, on other days it felt like rebuilding. The whole process demanded resilience and perseverance in ways I hadn’t anticipated. But it also reminded me of something essential, healing isn’t passive, it’s active, intentional work. And, hope is not naïve optimism, it’s a decision to keep moving forward when standing still or even hiding would be easier.

Sharing this book with the world feels both exciting and vulnerable but I know there is courage in visibility. I spend my professional life helping clients find and use their voices to make a difference in their work and in the world. Publishing this book feels like putting my own words into action and practising what I encourage others to do. It’s me stepping forward and saying this is my voice, and this is my story.

I’ve started this year on a high. Turning 50 and a book launch in touching distance no January blues here, only gratitude and anticipation. I feel a renewed sense of purpose and a widening horizon and I’m claiming a season of meaningful connection, meaningful work, and a heart full of joy!

There are transitions happening at home too. My young people stepping further into their independence which means a new chapter of adult life opening in front of me. It’s a season of change, growth, and reclamation and I’m here for it! If I sound optimistic, it’s because I am. It feels fitting given the title of the book.

Healing and Hopeful is not just a title, it’s a posture; way of standing in the world after everything that has happened and saying we’re still standing, not just surviving but thriving.

If any part of this resonates with you, this book was written with you in mind. It will be available for pre-sale in the coming weeks. Thank you for being here for the journey.
